The foundation stone laying ceremony for NEW ENERGY INDUSTRIAL PARK

MG Sales (Thailand), the manufacturer and distributor of MG cars in Thailand, and SAIC Motor-CP held a foundation stone laying ceremony for the New Energy Industrial Park. The 75-rai factory space will be transformed into partnership development areas for car parts and a battery manufacturing plant in response to the electric vehicle trend. The project’s first phase requires a 500-million-baht investment and reaffirms the company’s vision as the pioneer and leader in electric vehicles in Thailand.

SAIC Motor-CP was established to produce and distribute MG cars sold in Thailand and other ASEAN countries. The manufacturing facility is located in the WHA Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate 2 (WHA ESIE 2) in Chon Buri and has a maximum production capacity of 100,000 units per year. The 300 rais of the entire area are used for production, and the rest will be transformed into the New Energy Industrial Park. The project’s goal is to bring Thailand’s industry to an international level.

New Energy Industrial Park

The New Energy Industrial Park is divided into three phases of construction, with the first phase to be completed in October 2023. The project’s first phase investment is at least 500 million Thai baht. The 75-rai area will comprise a factory facility for the development of battery modules, the production line for MG electric vehicles, and an area for partnership development of MG car parts. A container storage area and a new logistics warehouse will also be built to ensure better capacity and reduce logistics-related costs.

MG’s Sustainability Efforts

Mr. Zhao Feng, President of SAIC Motor-CP, said, “In the past few years, MG has followed Thailand’s economic development roadmap under the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Model. To elevate Thailand’s automotive industry to the global level and follow the national EV industry policy, MG has become an EV brand that sees the highest ownership volume and offers the best variety of EV products in the country’s EV market.” MG has become an industry leader by integrating the development of three core pillars: bioeconomy, circular economy, and green economy. The New Energy Industrial Park project will kick off the SAIC-CP 2.0 era, enhancing products, creating new experiences, and bringing cutting-edge technology to Thai customers.

The New Energy Industrial Park is a strategic collaboration between SAIC MOTOR CORPORATION and Charoen Pokphand Group to support large-sized projects under China’s Belt and Road Initiative. The project’s first phase is a significant step towards making Thailand’s industry an international competitor. The project is expected to boost the country’s economy and strengthen the automotive industry, making it a leader in the global market.
